Kids Lunches: Moving Away from Single Use Plastics

As a Mom of two little ones, I'm constantly thinking about their health and the kind of world they're growing up in.

As I've learned more about harms of single use plastics on humans and the environment, I started paying closer attention to how much single use plastic we were actually using in our daily lives. From chemicals like BPA and microplastic shedding of everything from sandwich bags to yogurt cups, it felt overwhelming and impossible to pack a school lunch, or snack, without plastic.

Through research I found these wonderful stainless steel containers I now sell on this site. They're durable, easy to clean, naturally antibacterial, and I'm not worried about microplastics and chemicals leaching into snacks. My kids love the "cool" look and compartments that keep their food separate. It makes packing lunch so much easier too - the stainless steel containers keep things fresh and protects food from getting smashed, making  everything look more appealing for picky eaters come lunch time (How many times have we cleaned out the kids lunch boxes only to find the dreaded sandwich full bag of smashed berries that we paid an arm and leg for?). On top of it all, I feel good knowing I'm doing my part to cut single use plastics out of my lifestyle and saving money because of it.

Making this change wasn't about doing plastic free perfectly. I haven't gone plastic free over night. It's an ongoing process, but if we all take individual small steps, collectively those leave big impacts. It's just one step but it's one that's made a big difference in my family's daily routine and how I teach my kids about taking care of their bodies and the earth. My goal with Echo Plastic Free Living is to help make plastic free option the convenient choice.
